Can Ekologix Sleepers be used for a retaining wall?

Our Ekologix Sleepers are designed to be used for low bearing retaining walls. The maximum recommended height is 4 sleepers high, which is equivalent to 600mm high. It is also recommended that the back soil does not exceed 2m deep and the soil must also be well-drained.

How do I support the sleepers?

There are a number of ways to support Ekologix Garden Sleepers. For a clean straight look you can products like the Retain-it or Ridgi steel post systems. If you’re looking for a more traditional look you can also use the Garden Sleeper itself as a post. Please refer to the Ekologix Garden Sleepers Installation Guidelines for more information

What fixings do I use when using an Ekologix Garden Sleeper as a post?

We recommend using 10mm galvanized bolts with hexheads to secure the Sleeper posts in front of the wall. Please refer to the Ekologix Garden Sleepers Installation Guidelines for more information

What tools can I use to cut the Garden Sleepers?

You can use a standard woodworking drop saw to cut the sleepers

Where can I get spare end caps?

Additional end-caps are available on request at the Trade Desk at any Bunnings store

Why do I need to silicone the end caps on?

Sealing the end caps with a silicon based sealer helps prevent water pooling inside the hollows of the Ekologix Garden Sleepers. As a result, this helps increase the longevity of the product

Will the Garden Sleepers bow, twist or cup like timber sleepers?

Our Garden Sleepers will not bow, twist or cup like timber sleepers, but it is important to note that this product is a wood-plastic composite (WPC). WPC material often exhibits a slight bend/curve along its length. This is not a product fault

Can I use the sleepers as joists, bearers or stair treads?

Ekologix Garden Sleepers are a non-structural landscape product and
are suitable for garden edging, creating garden beds and can be used
for a garden wall up to a height of 600mm. It is not designed to be used as a structural member

Can I repair a Garden Sleeper if it gets marked or scratched?

Yes, just like Ekodeck you can gently sand the effected surface area using 40 grit sandpaper in the same direction of the grain

Is the composition of Ekologix garden Sleepers the same as Ekodeck?

The composition of our Ekologix Garden Sleepers is similar to Ekodeck – but it’s not exactly the same. A formula of 90% reclaimed timber and recycled plastics are used. Because Ekologix Garden Sleepers are designed to be used in the ground which contains moisture, so as a result bamboo has been excluded from the formula – to reduce the risk of mould. It also has a higher percentage of anti-mould agents to further reduce this risk

Do Ekologix Garden Sleepers bend?

If the Ekologix Garden Sleepers are installed as per our installation guidelines, than they should not warp or bend. However, please note that this is wood-plastic composite material which often exhibits a slight bend/curve along it’s length with heat. This is not a product fault.
